It might prove difficult to replicate last season’s success, where TMF had 4 members in the Leaderboard’s Top 10 and became just the third undefeated regular-season team in IFL history (joining Deathcake, Season 5 & King’s Gambit, Season 7). Unfortunately, that momentum came to a harsh end at the hands of Deathcake in the semi-finals (22-27 match loss) and several have pointed to a trio of narrow match wins (22-21 over TNB Week 1, 23-21 KGM Week 4, 23-21 DCK Week 5) as indications that TMF’s first-place finish was more luck than anything else.

On yet another mission to disprove doubters, one would think that Colonel Simon could figure out a way to transfer Cade Washington to a permanent RASG posting in Rhydin, rather than have him off the roster and toiling under the hot sun of Cadentia. Losing Ria Graziano (last season’s assistant captain) and Neekylah Lang hurts as well, especially since their replacements are short on recent IFL experience.

New to the team and the league is Karma Armstrong, who’s earned her dueling chops elsewhere and should prove an interesting challenge if she’s deployed correctly. Runt (lifetime 2-1, 1.67 PDPB) returns to the team after a year away and in what comes as a surprise to many, Matt dug deep into IFL history and talked former IFL champion Summer Ruais (lifetime 8-7, 0.27 PDPB) into returning after a 14-year hiatus!

TMF starts the year with 2 PowerHouse, 2 MiddleWeight and 3 FlyWeights. It’s highly unlikely that captain Matt Simon (2-0, 7.50 PDPB) will top the Leaderboard again; he should fall back to a losing record and his returning teammates will need to pick up that deficit. Koyliak VanDuran-Simon (1-2, -1.33 PDPB) needs to have a winning season - which last happened in 2017 - as does Dean Reighland (1-2, -2.67 PDPB). Crunchem (3-0, 5.33 PDPB) should make a nasty (and loud/destructive) pair with Runt; if those two can put the team on their very broad shoulders, Team Fist Nation might just be chanting MAAT SLAAG come playoff time.
