After several seasons of middling (or worse) performances and year-on-year roster makeovers, Sal’s hoping to replicate last season’s success where Deathcake narrowly lost to Real Rhydin in the IFL Finals (20-23 match score). Instead of the massive roster overhaul that’s been common for this team the past few seasons, Sal brings Deathcake back to IFL mostly intact. However, the team’s lone change is a big blow…Skid (3-0, 6.67 PDPB) was the team’s best brawler last season and the league MVP. Those are big shoes to fill and Sal recruited a newcomer to IFL, Droet, to try and get the job done.
Outside of Skid, the rest of the team mostly struggled in 2020. Caleb Feren (1-2, -3.00 PDPB), Dizzy Flores (1-2, -1.67 PDPB), and Yuzuki (1-2, -0.33 PDPB) all had losing records. Rekah split the middle, going 1-1 with a -1.50 PDPB while Sal (2-1, 0.67 PDPB) and Gatito (2-1, -0.33 PDPB) had winning records, but it’s important to note that outside of Skid, only Salvador had a positive PDPB in the regular season.
Opening the season with 1 FlyWeight, 2 MiddleWeights and 4 HeavyWeights, Deathcake certainly has the potential to hoist an IFL championship banner; to make that a reality, however, Sal will have to re-create Skid’s success in the aggregate and hope that every one of his team members overperforms, especially in critical situations.
2021 Season Prediction: 3-2, 3rd place regular season
