After storming onto the IFL scene in 2015 with a 7-0 regular season record, Deathcake hasn't been able to replicate the same level of success, only managing a 3-7 record since, with a dismal 1-3 performance last season. Sticking to a formula that hasn't yet worked, captain Salvador Delahada (2019: 1-1, 0.50 PDPB) has once again completely overhauled his team, this time jettisoning nearly all of the 2019 squad with the exception of himself and Rekah (0-2, -4.0 PDPB).

To replace them, Sal's brought in Skid - formerly of Discombobulators and an original member of Deathcake - who hasn't dueled in IFL since 2015, Caleb Feren and Gatito who've never dueled in IFL, Yuzuki Kuwabara - formerly of Chae Dynasty ' who hasn't dueled in IFL since 2017, and Dizzy Flores ' formerly of Team SHE, Badside Brawlers, Royal Pain, Dirty and most recently Warrior Force - who's had a dismal past few seasons.

Deathcake opens the season with 1 HeavyWeight, 1 MiddleWeight and 5 FlyWeights. Releasing his two best fighters from last season (Salia and Cane) might prove costly, as might the tactic of blowing up the roster again which leaves little room for team continuity. New team members in 2020 have either no IFL experience or negative lifetime PDPBs, with the exception of Dizzy who does bring with her a championship pedigree (Season 1 with Team SHE & Season 3 with Badside Brawlers) and the most regular season IFL dueling experience of all time (36 bouts), albeit with a just-above-zero lifetime 0.28 PDPB.

By far the best dueler on the team, Sal, with his lifetime 13-5, 2.89 PDPB record, will have to hope and pray that Yuzuki finds her first ever IFL wins, Caleb and Gatito burst out of the gates on a hot streak, Rekah returns to her 2015 form where she had a shutout victory, and Dizzy reclaims the magic of 2014 where she rattled off 4 straight wins (6 including playoffs). All in all, that's a pretty tall order and it's more likely that Deathcake falls flat once again in 2020.
